Commanding Officer
UNITAF

Following the Forced PTT changes announced in the last SITREP, both NCOs and UNISTAFF have consulted with you and also the huge amount of feedback we recieved about PTT in AARs from Ember 10.

We've discussed all the alternate options and we have settled on the below solution, which we again will trial going forward and adapt as needed to achieve the required results. This has been added to the General Unit Policy (Version 7). Taking effect immediately.

Voice activation

In UNITAF, you can openly choose between using voice activation or push-to-talk during operations. Voice activation allows for free-flowing natural communication and for many people allows you to multi-task much better. However, sounds emitting from you; irrespective of whether they come from your mouth or from the ambient background must not be disruptive to operations. In order to maintain a great all-round experience, please adhere to the following guidelines

Guidelines

  • When using voice-activation, set-up a "push-to-mute" key, so you are able to mute your microphone in the event of unexpected noises such as coughs/sneezes, eating or drinking, your neighbors chainsaw etc.
  • Ensure you activate your push-to-mute when you go AFK, when you don't need to talk, during briefings and as required to avoid any unintended transmission or disruptions.
  • Set your voice activation level appropriately so it picks up your voice and not background music, ambient noise, cutlery etc
  • If you have a directional microphone, ensure it's pointed at your mouth, and not where it will pick up non-vocal sounds
  • If your microphone has a pop-filter or sponge, ensure it does not rub against the microphone

Disruptive Communications

  • Any noise coming from your microphone that is
    • not your voice
    • not understandable
    • not considered to be reasonably accidental

  • Or any comment or communication you make that is;
    • not observing a BREAK COMMS or HOLD COMMS procedures
    • considered excessive in nature; such as shouting or repeated loud reactions or comments to battlefield events

Tactical Gag

Should you not follow the above guidelines, in order to preserve the immersive and structured nature of UNITAF operations, any UNITAF Officer, SNCO or NCO is able to apply a Tactical Gag (T-GAG) to you. A T-GAG will remove your ability to use voice activation immediately, and for the remainder of this operation you'll need to use push-to-talk in order to communicate.

  • When on-deployment
    • You'll be verbally warned once by the Officer, SNCO or NCO to give you an opportunity to cease disruptive communications
    • It's the sole discretion of the Officer, SNCO or NCO in question as whether to apply a T-GAG or not
    • The T-GAG cannot be removed in the same operation by any other Officer, SNCO or NCO than the one that applied it
    • At the end of the operation and when out of game; you can ask the Officer, SNCO or NCO who applied the T-GAG if it can be removed and they will offer you advice and or guidance on how to avoid this in the future.

  • Outside of deployment
    • An Officer, SNCO or NCO may additionally apply through the COC to have your T-GAG applied for up to 2 future operations
    • If you continue to violate the guidelines set here you'll either receive a permanent T-GAG, or further escalating action will be taken by your COC.
