Situation
Background Information
Enemy Forces
- Owing to task force progress, a sector of ISIS territory has been cut-off from the red zone, west of the COP
- Known usage of IEDs
- Known presence of entrenched positions
- Known usage of roadblocks
- Small Arms and 50cal Weapons
- Known presence of 2x MBT heavy armour in mission sector
- Anti-tank nests sighted north of sector in the hills
Friendly Forces
- ANA (Afghan National Army) stationed throughout, marked in green on tacmaps
- ANP (Afghan National Police) as above
- ISAF/NATO Forces stationed north of our AO
- The ANA patrol command have pre-notified us of operations south of our AO, we should check-fire when firing south
Mission
TaskingOur mission is to deploy an infantry reaction force from COP Verona south-east into a cut-off sector of the red-zone, to wipe out remaining insurgency forces completely. The mission will focus on the Red-Zone sector as seen below in Fig 1, we expect to push the enemy force east towards Sectors Oscar and Sectors Hotel for a final showdown.
Commanders Intent
The commanders intent is to accomplish the mission without friendly or civilian loss of life, or the loss of equipment.
Execution
Tasks and SequencingWe're going to do this with a full sized infantry platoon comprised of the following elements;
- Alpha Actual; GCE Lead with Joint Fires Support
- Alpha 1; Base of Fire Element /w MAT
- Alpha 2; Manevuer Element
- Alpha 3; Base of Fire Element /w Engineer / MAT
Plan
1st Platoon will manevuer 1km south of the COP to intercept the red-zone, where the base of fire elements will set up to provide initial reconnaissance toward the east, depending on these reports the plan is to support the maneuver element into Zarath, Alpha 1 will take the north ridge overpatch position, and Alpha 2 and 3 will move methodically via bounding overwatch through Zarath.
1st Platoon will continue east until reaching the target sectors, and the mission is complete when the commander determines that the sector is liberated.
Equipment
Owing to METT-TC variables we will make minimal use of task-force vehicles during this operation, although we will utilise a couple of MRAPs for mobility and CASEVAC operations. However, the full fleet of UNITAF MRAPs are made availible for this operation.
