--- OPERATIONS ORDER ---
Situation
Background InformationCoalition forces have made considerable progress in pushing ISIS forces out of the western valleys of the region and recent operations have firmed up that effort. In a new strategy - as seen attached, senior commanders have decided to focus efforts on a large scale encirclement of ISIS forces north of Kinduf. In order to allow this to happen over the next month, a large scale, multi-operation assault on the city of Kinduf, it's military installations and outer towns will be conducted in a joint effort by Coalition and Local Forces. In preparation for this assault it has been decided that an ISIS installation known as `Green Camp Base` is to be captured and expanded into a Forward Outpost, becoming the front line position for coalition forces on the north side of the planned encirclement. Green Camp Base lies some 2.5 - 3.0kms past the currently identified front line and recent SAR operations raided this position to retrieve a captured US Ranger 2 weeks ago, the forces while entrenched and dedicated are weakened.
Friendly Forces
Light Infantry Company comprised of; - 2x Rifle Platoons - 1x Combat Medical Team - 1x Company Command with Mortar and Reaper UAV in Support
Supporting Assets
Additional Friendly Forces, including Syrian Army Forces are on route behind us to garrison our gained ground.
Enemy Forces
ISIS infantry fighting groups, technicals and static weapons. The enemy is mostly fortified in pockets of compounds on the operation route, while not all compounds are expected to be a threat, recon assets will identify those expected to be heavily fortified and information will be sent to platoons on the ground. There is a large civilian presence, but civilians, especially south of the river are very supportive of ISIS. The enemy are expected to use static weapons, technicals and traps to prevent coalition forces crossing the river into the Kinduf region.
Mission
TaskingOur mission is simple, to carve a path for friendly cavalry units over the river into the Kinduf region from the northern border, this is to be achieved by capturing the ISIS controlled former SNA base known as `Green Camp Base`. A - Capture and Garrison Green Camp Base, until Friendly Forces Arrive B - Disconnect ISIS transmission tower C - Prevent ISIS forces from Bramar crossing the river to assist, by mining the bridge
End-state
If successful in reaching Green Camp, UNITAF forces are ordered to garrison there until local forces take over. Should we not be successful, we will return to FOB Fishbowl.
Execution
Commander's IntentThe purpose of this mission is to carve a tunnel through ISIS controlled villages in the northern Kinduf region in order to allow friendly Cavalry units to reach our objective. Utilising a company of infantry, the Commander's Intent is to follow the main supply route from FOB Fishbowl to Green Camp Base rapidly clear compounds on both sides, with each platoon assigned a 200-250 metre buffer on each side of the MSR. Forming a defensive pocket we will continue to forcefully advance 2km into enemy territory to capture GCB. The image below shows the wider picture of the planned movement. The darker areas each side demonstrate open ground, where infantry positions in the tunnel will provide ample kill zones for outward defence. The use of indirect fire, mortar and UAV will ensure that infantry in the tunnel are not at risk of being cut off. All compounds meeting the criteria will be searched and cleared by UNITAF ground forces, roads will be checked for IEDs and traps that could hinder reinforcements. Any civilians hindering our advance will be detained unless they follow instructions from ground forces. This execution is to be done with the minimum loss of life and collateral damage.
Tasks and Sequencing
Throughout this mission, 1st Platoon, callsign OUTLAW is assigned to the west side of the main supply route, that divides the area of operations. 2nd Platoon, callsign PHANTOM, is assigned to the east side of the MSR. Phase 1 Outlaw - Search and Clear Compounds of Sector 1A - Set up security for crossing of river Phantom - Search and Clear Compounds of Sector 1B - Mine entry route / bridge from Bramar Phase 2 Outlaw - Search and Clear Compounds of Sector 2A - Disable ISIS communications facility Phantom - Search and Clear Compounds of Sector 2B Phase 3 Outlaw - Search and Clear Compounds of Sector 3A - Setup Base of Fire for Camp Assault - Garrison West / North side of Green Camp Phantom - Search and Clear Compounds of Sector 3B - Conduct breaching and clearance for Camp Assault - Garrison South / East side of Green Camp
