--- OPERATIONS ORDER ---
Situation
Background InformationBritish Royal Marines on QRF duty at Hazir Bagh are alerted and deployed to meet an ANA standing infantry platoon at Rasman barracks. ICOM chatter has tipped-off an urgent threat to Lalezar Oil Field. Insurgents are expected to assault in large number after morning prayers, and ANA forces wish to be ready. In a quick threat assessment, ground commanders agree that covert insertion is essential, our orders are to let the enemy commence their assault in order to identify as many insurgents as possible, as to kill or capture them to reduce the insurgent threat and to gain maximum intelligence. To foil the assault early, would amount to a lost opportunity, but to act too late could result in vital infrastructure for military operations being lost, and support for the Taliban may increase. A temporary landing-zone has been set-up and the commanders of both forces will meet urgently to form a plan to deal with the insurgent threat. Red markers identify known insurgent activity in the last month. It's 0430hrs, expect darkness for 90 minutes approximately into mission execution, with sunrise shortly after. Wind is calm, low-lying fog is clearing up, skies are clear.
Friendly Forces
1x Royal Marine Quick-reaction force (Weapons, rifle integrated platoon) 2x Merlin MK4, Commando Helicopter Force
Supporting Assets
1x Afghan national army standing infantry platoon, Rasman barracks Relations with the ANA are at an all time high. The ANA forces are untrained but keen, and are a good ally - maintain good relations with ANA forces at all times, they are eager to learn and prove their worth. There is a small chance of desertion in combat.
Enemy Forces
The entire sector is under ANA control, but the insurgents live throughout the district. Due to the nature of the insurgency, locating, identifying and dealing with insurgents is a difficult and intel lead operation. Insurgents are lightly armed with AK-47s, RPG-7s and are known to use IEDs and occasionally, light vehicles such as the Toyota Hilux, sometimes with mounted weapons. Usage of VBIED is rare. Marksmen and Snipers are the preferred offensive weapon, insurgents are well known to engage at long range, and then disengage in hit-and-run style attacks.
Mission
TaskingA - Rendezvous with ANA at TLZ Romeo Meet with Dvahomi baridman (Lt) Murad Ali, Duty Commander of the ANA Rasman Barracks, discuss plans for a joint effort. Lt Ali has asked that a number of his junior soldiers be integrated into our squads for training, interpretation and local knowledge purposes. B - Recon insurgent activity at Lalezar Oil Field From the RV, set up recon units to observe all movements in the area of operation, and make detail notes of all movements to try to determine insurgent activity until the signal is made. It is expected that at the end of the morning prayer call, the attack will commence shortly thereafter. C - Repel expected insurgent attack Allowing as many insurgents to commit as possible, repel the attack to protect both Tank Arrays and all 4 Wells. If any of the 6 sites are destroyed, the mission is not deemed successful. Detain any insurgents who surrender, or lay-down arms through a combination of dialogue and warning shots. D - Detain any suspected insurgents Hand over prisoners to the ANA forces, making sure to process prisoners correctly and in accordance with international law. Following success, prepare for airlift back to Hazir Bagh.
End-state
After successful mission completion, hand over to ANA forces and return via TLZ Victor to Hazir Bagh for debriefing.
