Situation

Background Information
With the Vietnam war heating up, UNITAF deploys a heli-borne platoon to a local village to search for information on nearby guerrilla activity. With the region only just heating up we are not expecting full force NVA/VC. However there is some intel to suggest movement of significant hostile forces to the south of the border.

Mission

Tasking
1) Move into the area surrounding the plain of jars and to the north in the town of Com Ngon. 2) engage with the local populace to find out what's going on in the area. 3) Act on anything intriguing that the local populace mentions

End-state
All objectives secure and safely back to the airbase.


Execution

Commander's Intent
Plt Leader's intent is to patrol the region around and to the North of the Plain of Jars, to ascertain the accuracy of civilian reports of guerrilla activity in the area.

Tasks and Sequencing
During any phase, should an enemy presence be found in close proximity to the platoon they will be dealt with immediately. Any camp(s) reported by civilians will be assessed case-by-case to determine if they are to be tackled in the current phase or pushed back to phase 4. Phase 0 Jackdaw along with Phoenix callsigns will transit Whiskey platoon to a landing site in the plain of jars [POJ]. Once everyone is on the ground, rotary will transition to close recon and air support until required for further transit taskings. Phase 1 Obj- A: Easy moves West of the POJ to investigate structures and make contact with local civilians, whilst Fox does the same to the North and North-East. Once done, platoon regroups for ground movement to Obj-B. Phase 2 Obj-B: Plt moves to Com Ngon to question any willing residents and investigate the area for signs of guerrilla activity. Easy will move into the village whilst Fox holds security, checking the area East of the village and holding the road. Once done, regroup for ground movement to Obj-C. Phase 3 Obj-C: Plt moves to Phok Ham for further investigation. In this phase, Fox will move into the village and recon whilst Easy holds security to the immediate North and East; if viable using the hills for an OP. Phase 4 will consist of further push towards and assault of remaining enemy camp(s) in the region that we have yet to move through. Jackdaw will be on hand for immediate CAS requests and extra airborne transit should it be necessary. Jackdaw will also handle final extraction back to Maxwell.
