Company Command Ranks Explained - United Task Force (UNITAF) - Arma 3



Company Command Ranks

The company is the largest operational unit in play, it can support 40-126 men at any one time with a target size of 70. It's headed up by a Captain or Major supported by a First Sergeant or Company Sergeant Major. Administratively the Company holds up to 2-3 Platoons.




1SG
First Sergeant (1SG)

A First Sergeant is a Senior NCO who typically holds a post of Company Sergeant, reporting to and the primary assistant of the Company Commander, usually a Captain or Major and has direct supervisory responsibility in the unit and considerable influence with the unit commander, the other officers, and all of the non-commissioned officers.

The First Sergeant wields the authority of their position which is often magnified by the First Sergeant's close advisory relationship to the Officer in command.

SNCOs support the officers of UNITAF in the undertaking of the duties of their command.

1SGs deploy as other SNCOs do to senior instructing and field leadership roles. A 1SG can be promoted to Company Sergeant Major (SGM) after a suitable period of time and good service in this grade.

Long serving members who continually demonstrate a positive attitude, maturity and a willingness to not only volunteer their leadership both in and out of game, but to provide their valued feedback and input.

Coupled with the aforementioned, these members consistently show a willingness to volunteer their time and efforts in leading the various administrative duties of UNITAF.

SGM
Sergeant Major (SGM)

Sergeant Major is the second highest NCO rank attainable, similar to their 1SG counterparts, Sergeant Majors are primary assistants to Company Commanders, and support them but also assume their authority when the Captain or Major is not present. SGMs carry out policies and standards of the performance, training, attendance, and conduct of all personnel while advising the commander and HQ staff in matters pertaining to the local NCO support channel.

SGMs are expected to function completely without supervision but with an energy and enthusiasm that never wanes, even in the worst of times.

SNCOs support the officers of UNITAF in the undertaking of the duties of their command. Long serving members who continually demonstrate a positive attitude, maturity and a willingness to not only volunteer their leadership  out of game, but to provide their valued feedback and input.

Capt
Captain (Capt)

As the Commanding Officer of a Company, a Captain commands a company-sized unit made up of 2-3 troops. As Company Commander, a Captain trains, develops and supports the companies junior officers and NCOs. With the support of their Company Sergeant a Captain will monitor the performance of the Troops in the Company, and work with the Company Officers and NCOs to ensure the health and vitality of the unit, along and in line with the aims of Command.

A Captain will typically be promoted to Major after a suitable time of service, performance and good conduct in the previous grade.

Officers are responsible for ensuring that UNITAF continues to be a healthy engaging and exciting. They have full responsibility for the leadership and smooth running of their units and are responsible for a large number of personnel.

Maj
Major (Maj)

A Major is the Commanding Officer of a Company Sized Unit and as such his roles and responsibilities are much like that of the Captain. Majors are typically experienced or seasoned Company Commanders and have the same responsibilities as a Captain.

Officers are responsible for ensuring that UNITAF continues to be a healthy, engaging and exciting. They have full responsibility for the leadership and smooth running of their units and are responsible for a large number of personnel.
