Each person in a deployment carries a variation of smoke grenades. This section aims to explain their standardized meaning, which should be assumed to be in use unless an alternate meaning is stated in the OPORD.

Smoke Color Meaning Carried by
Red Enemy Position Team Leaders+, FAC/FO
Blue Friendly Position/LZ Team Leaders+, FAC/FO
Green LOGPACK/Ammo drop Support Callsigns
Purple MASCAS / MEDEVAC LZ All Medical Roles
Yellow/Orange Damaged Vehicle in need of repairs All Crew Roles
White Concealment All Infantry
Black Only used by OPFOR OPFOR

It is paramount that any non-standard or alternate meaning of these colors is noted in the OPORD and repeated by the Field Leader during the briefing.

If a smoke grenade is thrown in error or used due to the lack of the correct color, it should be immediately reported upwards in OPCOC to avoid or minimize confusion, especially when CAS/Air Assets are in use.
