UNIT UPDATE

At the officer meeting on 16th of September, the unit leadership met to discuss central projects and issues that the unit is faced with. The following is a summary of the key points.

FTS3 IS ON TRACK

  • The key elements of FTS3 are ready for launch. Work remains on transferring areas from LTS to FTS.
  • Some key systems will change upon FTS3 implementation. To note, as per previous updates, tiers will be removed. As such, progression and ORBAT slotting will be refactored to reflect this change.
  • The focus of the work going forwards is on getting a solid baseline for further work, not a perfect system from the beginning. As such, TC and J10 resources will be primarily focused on FTS until after the launch.
  • Expect further updates closer to launch, and refer to previous updates for more details.

DEPLOYMENT RATES ARE UP

  • As a result of OC’s Never-enough-ops policy, the scheduler has been filled with deployments. This is in isolation very positive.
  • However, vacancy rates remain high, and it has been proven challenging for less active yet engaged deployment teams to schedule their operations. At the same time, an issue has previously been raised concerning the balance between operations and trainings.
  • OC and TC have prior to this meeting agreed on a mutual understanding concerning the op-FTX balance, and this is expected to be of less concern going forwards.
  • Regarding vacancy rates, it was hypothesised that the scheduler might be over-saturated by operations, resulting in less incentive for members to deploy on a particular operation. OC through J3 will investigate this further, and develop a course of action to reduce future vacancy rates.

ROADMAP PROCESSING TOO SLOW

  • Some roadmap items are moving too slow, with lack of clear ownership being identified as a key issue.
  • Staff groups and commands are requested to review roadmap items that they are tagged in more closely.
  • Commands will follow up on this with respective staff groups.

ACTIVE FORCE SIZE TO RISE?

  • Active force numbers were discussed, and leadership concluded that the unit will be well situated to increase the total membership numbers after FTS3 has matured a bit. It is expected that FTS3 will resolve the progression and role access issues that recruits have experienced.
  • Methods of outreach were discussed. It was noted that some members ended up leaving whilst waiting on FTS3. Reaching out to discharged and retired members is therefore being considered.
  • J1 will be requested to investigate further outreach methods. Ideas may be raised in #j1-recruiting

CPERS POLICY STILL VALID

  • The CPERS policy was due to an oversight not transferred over to the FM when Core Infantry was moved over. As such, this policy could only be found in the old SOP portal.
  • Unit leadership noted, however, that this policy has been in active use and enforced despite this oversight, and that policy that is published on the SOP portal remains valid.
  • As such, it was decided that CPERS policy should be transferred as soon as possible to the FM, which has now been completed.
