First Steps Towards the Reset

Yesterday, Unit Command have met for the first time to talk about the goals and structure of the Reset. There are many more meetings to come, and we will update you one way or another about the outcomes of each.

We've decided on this to start with: The Reset will conclude on the 1st of January, 2027.

But: That does not mean nothing is happening before that date. That's just the day we officially turn the page. Up till then, we're already deciding on, building and delivering incremental changes to the day-to-day workings of UNITAF. That includes tiny QOL fixes and features, letting you take part in the culture and processes of the new Charter, and transitioning to the website replatforming project page by page.

Personally, I'm a big fan of show, don't tell. So we are not going to send out pages upon pages of announcements along the way. Only where updates in text make sense, that's where you get text. If you know me, you might think 'yeah, right' at this point. I vow improvement.

Reset Task Group

Opening up the Reset Task Group is just the first step on our way to deliver the change. Even if you're not looking to contribute to the effort as a team member, discussing and questioning what we do is part and parcel of the Reset. So as members of the RTG ask you directly, or you notice a discussion in a public channel, engage with it! This is everybody's chance to influence UNITAF to become the place we want to play, contribute and stay.

This RTG is open to all who want to help get UNITAF where we need to be.

There is no cap to how many people join. We base this decision on the applications we receive.

Your contribution to the Reset Task Group will help us with:
  • Figuring out current bottlenecks,

  • Looking at common interactions between staff groups, projects, tools and people,

  • Designing the Future Unit Structure,

  • Developing a Charter,

  • Motivating members and contributors,

  • Cultivating the sentiments we need for progress, working hand in hand as a community and – having fun playing games.

This list is not exhaustive. The whole point of the RTG is figuring out what we need. That includes questioning every assumption we bring from the old structure, and everything else we're already basing the new one on.

If you're particularly good at red-teaming in good faith and have experience in (or even just opinions on) any of the points above, you are more than welcome to apply!

We want people who are active and available over the next few weeks to months as we deliver the Reset step by step. That is why this application period is only 7 days: we need to get stuck in as soon as possible.

STG-1 Reforger

The Reforger Staff Task Group was the first objective project group formed at the start of this year.

For all the momentum it had lost after the initial sprint, it's now coming back in force. Big thanks to CPL TeddyOregano at the helm, and SFC Kerry, CPL Applechaser, MSP Mattjamco, SPC Zuka and SP2 Miksi for contributing to all we've achieved.

One quick update to get everybody up to speed: The UNITAF Reforged Framework can already

  • connect to the website,
  • get ORBAT data,
  • assign custom ranks and names,
  • populate game objects with ORBAT data, i.e. match players to slots,
  • export loadouts.

There are only a few to-dos left to launch Framework V1:

  • Assign loadouts
  • Spawn at rallypoints (or: override the vanilla spawn system)
  • Log connections on the website
  • Set radio frequencies (which means deciding whether we use vanilla or Coalition VON)

STG-1 is looking for any contributor who has strong opinions about Reforger and the new mission requirements it bears as a game.

  1. How do we, as a unit, play the game?
  2. What new SOP do we need?
  3. How can we integrate the Reforger Workbench in our mission-making flow?
  4. Can and should we run a public Reforger server for outreach, RSVP sessions and more? If yes, what game mode?

I strongly believe we need to have a working Reforger platform by the end of the year.

Do you just want to stay tuned to our progress, or do you want to help us get there?

STG-2 Intake Rework

J1 is inviting contributors to focus on reworking the application process from initially joining the Discord through to becoming a Private. This will cover the application itself, induction, and the probationary periods as a Candidate and Recruit.

The group will be expected to develop the new process, identify any changes required to support it, and see those changes through to implementation.

Roles

Enlisted Contributor

Someone willing to contribute ideas, provide perspective, brainstorm solutions and help drive the task forward.

Requirements: An understanding of UNITAF and a willingness to actively contribute to discussions and development of the new process.

Responsible for helping produce the video content required for the new application and induction process. Content likely would be provided by the larger task group.

Requirements: Able to record and edit clear, concise video content. Experience producing instructional or informational videos would be beneficial.

Process / Technical Contributor

Someone able to help turn the proposed process into something that works practically across UNITAF’s existing systems.

Requirements: Ability to mock up (or build) a solution to integrate into the existing website to hand off to J10.
