--- OPERATIONS ORDER ---
Situation
Background InformationThe Russian backed coup has put a stop to shipping through the Red Sea. The UK, US and Italy have deployed forces into the region to take back key infrastructure and help the loyalist forces take back control. THUNDER M1A2 Tank Platoon WHIPLASH MH-60 DAPs with direct fire weapons
Friendly Forces
VOODOO Air Assault Platoon with attached FAC THUNDER Tank Platoon acting as fire support for VOODOO; Currently reduced to 2 tanks from mechanical failures WHIPLASH In direct support of VOODOO for transport and close air support GRIFFIN In general support of the combat elements
Supporting Assets
Friendly forces have managed to push the enemy to the north of the river. They have secured two crossing points to allow access to the north. 3rd Platoon will be acting as a follow up element and moving into areas we have cleared and gather any remaining intel.
Enemy Forces
The Islamic Liberation Army of Sudan has occupied many positions in the area with forces massed around towns and key infrastructure. Previous raids have disabled their long-range anti-air capabilities and the presence of MANPAD equipment has yet to be confirmed along enemy formations. Threats remain from small arms and RPGs to our helicopters. ILAS is fielding mostly soviet and Russian equipment :BMP 1/2, BTR 60/80, T 55/72
Mission
TaskingVOODOO is to eliminate any enemy stronghold identified between the crossing points and Marwey airfield to allow follow on forces to continue the assault. If the situation is favorable, VOODOO may complete the assault of Marwey airfield
End-state
VOODOO is expected to finish their push at Wondori Town If unable to continue the mission, hold your current position until 3rd Platoon reinforces, or fallback to a position where 3rd Platoon is present.
Execution
Commander's IntentThe purpose of this mission is to conduct a combined arms assault through enemy territory, clearing a corridor through enemy supply lines and dismantling strongholds along the way. We will attempt to posture for clearance of the enemy-held airfield by securing Wondori, and commit to securing the position should time allow. Relief forces from 3rd Platoon will continue from our position, so our measure of success will lie in the number of hostile villages we can successfully neutralise, thus increasing the odds of success for our sister platoon and the company at large.
Tasks and Sequencing
Considerations The corridor we intend to secure has been organised into phases based on the objectives- each one an enemy-held town. Objectives are intended to be cleared in the following order: BLUE->GREEN->YELLOW->ORANGE[HOLD]->RED[STRETCH] Should the situation force our hand, this may be amended in-field. Throughout, Thunder will proceed cohesively as a tank section between objectives, locating suitable positions to support the infantry in co-ordination with Voodoo. Rough route and suggested positions for each objective are marked as T OP1-5. Whilst Voodoo conduct CQB, Thunder can move up into/around the village to secure flanks or find better vantage points. Voodoo infantry sections will be based from Whiplash rotary elements, Voodoo 1 to Whiplash 5-1 and Voodoo 2 to Whiplash 5-2. The platoon will maintain mutual support whilst moving from LZs into towns, utilising bounding and smoke where necessary. Whiplash will need to fly NOE when transporting infantry to/from LZs, unless brought into an orbit by FAC to provide door-mounted fire support. No major enemy AA expected, with only MANPAD threat expected at Marwey Airfield. When not on task for transit or CAS, use of observation equipment to provide recce will be needed. Phase Blue: Samari --Primary LZ: Kite --Secondary LZ: Buzzard -Notes: Expected open ground crossing for part of Voodoo's route into Samari- smoke to be deployed as blinding cover toward enemy positions before moving. Thunder clear and cover LZ position from T OP1 whilst Voodoo inserts then move as needed. Phase Green: Mimi --Primary LZ: Osprey --Secondary LZ: Divert into nearest viable LZ during ingress, covered from Objective Green -Notes: Large hill provides terrain cover at LZ Osprey; ingress from West or North/West direction. Thunder to cover and suppress enemy positions during Voodoo ingress (preferably from around T OP2) then move as needed. Phase Yellow: Damaram --Primary LZ: Falcon --Secondary LZ: Vulture -Notes: Both LZs provide terrain cover from Damaram when flying NOE. Thunder to support from a vantage point scouted during Phase Green- manoeuvre to support Voodoo where possible, and transition to T OP3 during Phase Yellow. Phase Orange: Wondori --Primary LZ: Eagle, following a ditch providing terrain cover. --Secondary LZ: Touch down early during ingress, in defilade afforded by ditches. -Notes: A low and slow approach is needed to follow terrain cover along the suggested ingress for LZ Eagle. This should however provide us with enough cover to approach the town whilst in cover. Expected open ground during Voodoo's approach- bounding with smoke and support from Thunder will get us into Wondori. Phase Red: Marwey Airfield --Primary LZ: Harrier --Secondary LZ: Kestrel -Notes: Stretch objective. T OP4 to be used by Thunder to scout initial helo approach, before proceeding to T OP5. T OP5 expected to be sufficient for covering Whiplash on approach to LZs.
Administration/Logistics
ResupplySpare emergency supplies will be loaded into rotary inventory, with supply boxes in the inventory. Griffin is expected to maintain a small FARP at each objective once secured, moving our support assets up with the platoon. Ensure the position is well selected for cover and defences are built where needed.
