--- OPERATIONS ORDER ---
Situation
Background Information
During a period of increased VC logistical activity in the lower river basin, MACV-SOG squad DAGGER has been ordered to infiltrate the Phai island (Đảo Phái) under cover of darkness. Recent SIGINT and agent reporting confirm that Đảo Trai, a riverside town on the island, is functioning as a principal transit and supply hub for the PLAF, with materiel and personnel flowing through the area at unprecedented levels.
Enemy forces are suspected to be using the island as a forward staging ground for operations against friendly units positioned downriver. DAGGER is inserted to verify the scale of VC presence and supply activity, gather photographic and documentary evidence, and, if conditions permit, sabotage enemy assets to disrupt further operations. The mission is strictly clandestine; compromise will force an immediate and contested withdrawal.

Additional Equipment
Due to the operational requirement for nocturnal infiltration and reconnaissance, Command has issued each fire team with AN/PVS-2 Starlight scopes. These night vision devices (NVDs) represent a significant investment—costing upwards of $2,000 per unit.
Loss of such equipment is unacceptable; under no circumstances are these devices to fall into enemy hands. In the event of casualty or imminent capture, personnel are instructed to remove and destroy the scope immediately per standing orders. Accountability for issued NVDs will be enforced without exception.
Enemy Forces
VC
The LASV, commonly known as the VC, are the principal enemy force operating on Đảo Phái. Intelligence assessments confirm a significant and well-organised VC presence on the island, functioning as both a logistics hub and a forward staging area for operations into the lower Mekong. Their activities include supply transfer, staging of personnel, and covert transit across the river network.
PAVN (NVA)
Given the island’s proximity to the borders of the DRV, there is a credible possibility of PAVN personnel or advisors present in the surrounding mainland area. While main force NVA units are unlikely to be garrisoned on Đảo Phái itself, small groups may operate nearby, providing support, coordination, or specialist capabilities to the local VC infrastructure.
PL
The region’s direct border with the Kingdom of Laos increases the risk of PL activity on the adjacent mainland. Pathet Lao units may use the river corridors and borderlands for transit, logistics, and mutual support operations with PAVN and VC elements. While direct PL presence on the island is unlikely, their influence and cooperation cannot be discounted in the wider AO.
Mission
TaskingMACV-SOG squad DAGGER will conduct a covert nocturnal riverine insertion onto Phai island (Đảo Phái) to reconnoitre a suspected VC supply camp adjacent to Đảo Trai. The team will insert silently, avoid sentry detection, and split into reconnaissance and demolition elements to photograph and document enemy stockpiles and troop dispositions.
If authorised, DAGGER will emplace demolition charges on boats and ammunition; if compromised, the squad will transition to a direct-action mode—destroying caches and fighting to an extraction point. Stealth, suppressors, and expert riverine exfiltration skills are paramount; any loss of concealment will trigger an immediate extraction under fire.
End-state
On mission success, DAGGER will withdraw to the designated riverbend exfil point, embark its boats, and depart the area with all required intelligence and any demolition charges emplaced or supplies destroyed.
If compromised, DAGGER will break contact, exfiltrate by boat to the covert hide site on the southern bank, establish a concealed field camp, and await further orders or emergency extraction under radio silence.
Execution
Commander's IntentThe purpose of this mission is to: OBJ 1: Destroy enemy boats in port OBJ 2: Recon the town of Dao Trai for enemy positions/intel
Tasks and Sequencing
DAGGER will utilise boats to move to LZ1 on the East of Dao Trai island. Dismounting, they will move to the cemetary and establish an OP1 to get a view of enemy patrols and movement around the dock and the town itself, detaining any civilians/enemy personnel they encounter at the cemetary.
From there, they will move to OP2 overviewing the dock and again, observe OPFOR patrols/movement. With a plan to be established in field, DAGGER 1-1 will move into the dock and plant charges on boats with DAGGER 1-2 in overwatch.
With charges planted, DAGGER 1 will observe from OP3 before conducting close-recon of Dao Trai, with DAGGER 1-2 leading this effort and DAGGER 1-1 in BOF or rear proximity. Decisions on impact and required action will be determined based on observation but objective is deemed successful if good recon is conducted and we get good intel. It is not required for enemy to be contacted or eliminated in any way, but the more that can be found or destroyed, the better.
On completion of OBJ 2, DAGGER 1 will move back to LZ1, mount up in boats and exfil.
Actions on
- Contacted on entry: Retreat to STARTEX and re-attempt on back-up date
- Contacted on OP1: Attempt fight-through and demolition of boats, otherwise exfil and reattempt
- Contacted after OBJ 1 but before completion of OBJ 2: Retreat back to cemetary, and from there LZ1, mount up and exfil in good order
- LZ1/boats compromised: Retreat to SE docks and swim to friendly territory
