Situation
Background Information
Following a series of probing attacks on FSB Khe Gio, MACV-SOG squad WOLF is deployed to investigate local settlements suspected of harbouring enemy forces. Intelligence rules out direct infiltration from the northern border, indicating an VC presence operating in the immediate area.WOLF will move from FSB Khe Gio, clear Long Mau, and proceed to Sam Song, searching for signs of enemy activity and eliminating any discovered threats. Mission priority is rapid detection and neutralisation of VC cells before they can regroup or reinforce.Maintain strict discipline and readiness for contact at all times.

Friendly Forces
MACV-SOG squad, callsign WOLF
Supporting Assets
USMC
USMC units are holding positions along the front line and border areas facing North Vietnam, south of the DMZ and in sectors extending toward Hanoi. They conduct static defence and patrol operations to deny infiltration across the border.
ARVN
ARVN regular forces are co-located with US Marines, maintaining fixed defensive positions and carrying out patrols to interdict enemy movements.
Camp Strike Force
Camp Strike Force elements are also present, securing forward bases and conducting rapid-reaction patrols and reconnaissance to disrupt any infiltration attempts.
These USMC, ARVN and Camp Strike Force units will not interfere with Squad WOLF’s mission. Limited movement of friendly patrols and logistical traffic may occur between FSB Khe Gio and forward positions, but no direct support or integration with Squad WOLF is planned.
Enemy Forces
Suspected VC
The LASV, or VC, are assessed as the primary hostile element within the AO. Enemy activity is concentrated in the vicinity of local settlements, utilising civilian cover and riverine access to facilitate movement and logistics. VC cells are likely to employ ambush tactics, intelligence gathering, and rapid dispersal in response to allied patrols.
Note:
Although direct infiltration from the northern border is considered highly unlikely based on recent intelligence, the area of operations is adjacent to the DMZ and remains within operational range of PAVN (NVA) elements. The proximity to the DMZ increases the risk of PAVN presence on the mainland, particularly in support or advisory roles for local VC operations. Any unexpected escalation or heavier resistance should be considered a possible indicator of PAVN intervention.
Mission
TaskingMACV-SOG squad WOLF is tasked to conduct a reconnaissance and clearance operation from FSB Khe Gio through Long Mau to Sam Song. The unit will:
- Investigate both villages for evidence of VC presence, recent occupation, or support activities.
- Identify and confirm any enemy positions, supply caches, or infrastructure supporting hostile operations against US forces.
- Neutralise detected threats and gather actionable intelligence.
- Prevent further ambushes or attacks against US logistics in the area.
- Maintain operational security and be prepared for rapid transition from reconnaissance to direct action as required.
End-state
Upon successful mission completion:
- MACV-SOG squad WOLF has confirmed and neutralised all VC presence in Long Mau and Sam Song, secured both settlements, and gathered intelligence on enemy activities.
- The local threat to FSB Khe Gio and US logistics is eliminated or degraded to negligible levels.
- Squad WOLF exfiltrates from the area in good order, with all personnel accounted for, and intelligence recovered.
In the event of mission failure:
- Squad WOLF withdraws to FSB Khe Gio or a pre-designated rally point, preserving combat power and critical intelligence.
- Status and location of enemy forces are reported for follow-on operations, with minimum casualties sustained and no compromise of sensitive material or personnel.
