Situation

Background Information
The Cold War has been raging on for 5 decades, but is seemingly coming to an end with the instability of the Warsaw pact. With the East German withdrawal from the Pact a year before, the end is looming near. During the first months of 1991, Premier Gorbachev was ousted from power by the military and other high ranking members of his party. This new government has increased pressure on Finland, and is seemingly attempting to replace the hole left in the Warsaw pact by the DDR, with a Finnish satellite state. Even with all the pressure and threats, the government and military are not intending to concede to the crumbling Soviet Union, ready to use all means necessary to maintain Finnish sovereignty. Finland has been raising reservist units towards wartime strength in secret, and preparing for the worst. A special taskforce has been built up in the region of Archie, in the Gulf of Finland, to respond to unauthorized Soviet border crossings and subversive activities in the region, which has due to its strategic location, been the hotspot for them. BERSERKER 1 will be deployed to investigate a local anti-government group that has appeared suddenly, likely to be of Soviet backing.

Mission

BERSERKER 1 is to move to island Vallila, with recently popped up "anti-government" activity, and investigate.

End-state
Potential KGB operation stopped.

Execution

Commander's Intent
My intent is to investigate and stop the anti-government activity and provide security to the citizens of Vallila. Should the inevitable happen sooner than later, we are to survive as long as possible in a rolling defense according to the predesignated plan. as we are on friendly territory, expect civilians to still be in the area throughout the op SHOULD IT BE APPARENT THAT THE SOVIET INVASION OF FINLAND HAS BEGUN, ALL CALLSIGNS SHOULD MOVE STRAIGHT TO CONTINGENCY PHASE LAST DEFENSE

Tasks and Sequencing
Ammo bearer for BERSERKER 1-1 will carry mainly ar ammo. Ammo bearer for BERSERKER 1-2 will carry extra at rockets. as we are on friendly territory, expect civilians to still be in the area throughout the op at startex briefing will be conducted and final preparations are done. for any vehicle movements convoy order will be: BERSERKER 1-1 and BERSERKER 1-2 BERSERKER 1 For most combat maneuvers BERSERKER 1-1 will be BOF element, BERSERKER 1-2 will be maneuver element PHASE 0 After brief ALL CALLSIGNS will mount up and follow the green line towards LZ heli pickup . Once ALL CALLSIGNS have arrived, we will dismount our vehicles, mount the helicopters and be transported to LZ Zulu. The signal company has left us some vehicles for use of transport, meaning From LZ Zulu we will mount up and step off towards the town of Brantebacke following the road all the way until DZ Gamma. Both vehicles should be parked in foliage cover on the island PHASE 1 Once berserker has arrived at brantebacke, ALL CALLSIGNS are to talk to the local civpop and try to identify potential anti government propagandists. BERSERKER 1-1 will follow along the main road. BERSERKER 1-2 will check out the side roads/streets. Should we identify anti government propagandists, we are to cuff, interrogate and hand them over to local authorities. Should the anti government propagandists display hostility with intent to harm, then we are free to engage them IF cuffing is not an option or is too risky. If we identify any hostile compounds/houses and they are cleared, berserker should make a quick sweep for intel PHASE 2 If there is no further propagandist activity, ALL CALLSIGNS will mount up and move towards signal company HQ If there is no further tasking, ALL CALLSIGNS will regroup for ENDEX CONTINGENCY PHASE LAST DEFENSE ALL CALLSIGNS will break contact, mount up and head towards DZ mutton, dismount and set up defensive positions at Defense line mutton. Once contact begins to be overwhelming ALL CALLSIGNS will break contact and move towards the next defense line and set up new defensive positions. our task is to delay, not defend a position to the last man. that all the way until we have no more ground left to retreat to Ammo bearers and assistants are expected to dig sophisticated trenches at every defense line as the soviets are known for using artillery to soften up positions. Should the FL be down, then the judgement will fall upon BERSERKER 1-1, if 1-1 is down then BERSERKER 1-2 are to save as many casualties as they can and break contact to next defense line. Our vehicles will be left at DZ gambit, the rest of the movements will be made on foot.
