Situation

Background Information
The British 6th Airborne Division with the help of an armoured detachment are spearheading the assault on the town of Chef-du-Pont. The Defenders have several key positions in and around the city that are hindering the advance of the rest of battalion. The paratroopers are tasked to capture and keep a hold of the road into the town ensuring safe passage for the armour, clearing the key defensive fortifications and proceed to capture the town and hold it until reinforcements arrive.

Mission

Tasking
King Company is tasked to: 1) Take over and clear the defensive line 2) eliminate two artilery and anti-air positions 3) secure the road into Chef-du-Pont 4) clear and Take the town of Chef-du-Pont

End-state
Chef-du-Pont succesfully taken and defended with George Company arriving in relief.

Execution

Commander's Intent
The intent of this mission is to relieve Dog Company from their failed push on Chef-du-Pont, and capture the main bridge intact, in order to utilize as the main crossing point over the Merderet for our advance to liberate the Cherbourg peninsula

Tasks and Sequencing
The task is comprised of 4 phases of activity PHASE 0 KING 9 starts in our staging area approximately 1.5 km SW of Chef-du-Pont. Dog Company was en-route through a road through the forest to the south when they were met with a heavy defensive line operating in 4 known locations; Chatteu de Guyson (OBJ-WAYNE), Le Cabane de Marcele (OBJ-BERGMAN) , the road checkpoint (OBJ-GRANT) , and a clearing in the western forest (OBJ-HEPBURN). PHASE 1 CASTLE 1 and CASTLE 2 will move Northwards, and clear OBJ-BERGMAN then OBJ-GRANT, with the support of KNIGHT 9. CASTLE 3 will move East and ATTACK OBJ-WAYNE with support from an MBT from KNIGHT 9. Upon CAPTURE of each objective, each squad will radio in completion and move to an AP of their choosing, close to, but not in contact with OBJ-HEPBURN. When all teams are assembled they will commit a joint assault on OBJ-HEPBURN whilst KNIGHT 9 secure the northern road from any QRF from Chef-du-Pont. PHASE 2 Phase 2 is the capture of the western side of the river of Chef-du-Pont, specifically the town hall building acting as the enemy HQ (OBJ-GABLE). KING 9 will either LOGPAK on OBJ-HEPBURN if needed, or move in column down the northern road to within sight of Chef-du-Pont. At this point CASTLE 1 will move to capture St Vexage (OBJ-STEWART) with support from KNIGHT 9 and CASTLE 2 and CASTLE 3 will move to assault OBJ-GABLE from the South-East and South respectively. This will allow CASTLE 1 to then move into the North of Chef-du-Pont from the west. Each team will then secure their assigned bridge (CASTLE 1 Northern pontoon, CASTLE 2 Main Bridge, CASTLE 3 southern pontoon) and engage the enemy across the river. Throughout KNIGHT 9 will establish control over the Northern and Western routes into Chef-du-Pont, and prioritise elimination of enemy armour and heavy emplacements on both sides of the bridge. PHASE 3 Phase 3 is the capture of the Eastern side of Chef-du-Pont, specifically the main square OBJ-BOGART and is considered a stretch objective. After a LOGPAK assessment upon the capture of OBJ-GABLE, KING 9 will continue engaging enemy forces on the Eastern bank of the Merderet, and cross the bridges under cover from KNIGHT 9 who will have an MBT supporting each squad. From there, each squad will take their respective part of town (CASTLE 1 North, CASTLE 2 Centre, CASTLE 3 South) Upon completion of OBJ-BOGART, ALL CALLSIGNS will ENDEX.
