Situation

Background Information
The British 1st Airlanding Brigade, as part of Operation Market Garden, are attempting to capture Arnhem and the bridge over the Nederrijn (Lower Rhine) river. Expecting light resistance in the form of soldiers that are unfit for duty, they are tasked to capture and hold the bridge until the XXX Corps arrives from Nijmegen. GAMEPLAY NOTES: - Each squad is required to have someone who is capable of flying a glider. Glider pilots, please ensure you practice the landing! - Gliders will be towed by planes flown by the MST. GENERAL NOTES: - Due to map limitations, this deployment will loosely follow the real life events of the battle of Arnhem, and is more of a "what if" scenario, rather than a true to life re-enactment of the battle. This also means that: - troop movements and drop/landing zones aren't accurate - towns and cities are smaller and in different positions than in real-life. Please keep this in mind when sloting, playing and overall giving feedback.

Friendly Forces
"ABLE" Company; 2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment

Supporting Assets
- The XXX Corps are arriving from Nijmegen to provide armour support. Their arrival time is dependent on the resistance they face en-route. - NO OTHER SUPPORT IS EXPECTED

Enemy Forces
Light resistance in the form of reserves and soldiers that are unfit for duty.

Mission

Tasking
Capture Arnheim and hold the bridges over the Nederrijn (Lower Rhine) river.

End-state
Able company in control of the bridges and supported by armour from the XXX Corps.

Execution

Commander's Intent
My intent is to capture Westervoort airfield via airborne glider landing before then capturing the two bridges of Oosterbeek and Arnhem from the south. The following is a high level Coy overview. Individual unit movement detail will be provided by Plt Cmds following briefings.

Tasks and Sequencing
ABLE Coy will be inserted from the airfield at Fasberg, known as Allied HQ, by gliders towed by support planes. Landing at the glider LZ, they will disembark the gliders and assault the Airfield, with BAKER Plt assaulting from the SSW and CHARLIE Plt providing BOF from the south. We must be quick and clean to take control of the Airfield before the alarm is properly raised, as the airfield acts as a vehicular storage. Upon capture of the Airfield, friendly supporting air assets will drop further resupply and equipment, whilst enemy vehicles at the airfield are destroyed, handled by ABLE 8. From there, ABLE Coy will move north to AP2-C, where CHARLIE Plt will move across the bridge, covered by BAKER Plt from BOF 2. The enemy will most likely have been alerted by that point so fighting to gain control of the towns will be tough, but our objective is to take control of the urban area, with BAKER Plt capturing the south of the river from West to East, Sector 2B, 2C, and then crossing the second bridge to S2-E3, whilst CHARLIE Plt capture the North of the river, taking Sector 2D, 2E-1 and 2E-2. After this, and any airdrops required to resupply the Coy on the move, it is likely that BLUFOR Armoured Division will be arriving to cross the bridges from the North, to help secure the airfield. If we need to, we can opt to clear out sectors further north to help them through, including S3: F,G,H&I. Otherwise, if these have been cleared easily by BLUFOR, Coy will mount up in Tank desant, and move back to the Airfield to counter any QRF that has been mobilised to retake the airfield and the bridges. ENDEX on elimination of QRF, and foothold established on the south of the river.

Administration/Logistics

Resupply
Emergency resupply and LOGPAKs will be coordinated through ABLE 8 and delivered by AIRDROPS.

Medical
- Medical support will be conducted in field (PAK in Field)

Rules of Engagement
CPERS should be turned over to ABLE 8 for control and evacuation to the rear.

Fire Support Plan
In accordance with SOP

Close Air Support
In accordance with SOP
