Situation
Background InformationFollowing UNITAFs overnight raid on a suspect IED factory on the outskirts of Mafaraz, ICOM chatter indicates ISILs frustration at our suprise attack and their intention to retaliate. Intelligence gathering from a UNITAF patrol Friday, highlighted a number of ISIL positions in and around Mafaraz which are key targets prior to a full combined assault on the city.
- Enemy Forces estimated 300+ fighters active in the valley, light and medium armor sighted, use of rockets, IED and static weapons
- Friendly Force Afghan National Army (ANA) compound established to our north east.
- Attached and Detachments Support Operations, M252 Fire Support
Mission
Tasking1st Platoon will conduct a foot patrol from Patrol Base YANKEE with EOD Support along the northern road west to Compound 76 then recon from OP BRAVO (Hill 282) demining any IEDs on route. 1PLT will use this patrol to gather further intelligence en-route to identify key targets to disrupt and destroy the enemy.
From OP BRAVO 1PLT will recon the sector, and identify any indication of enemy movements towards PB Yankee / friendly positions. The purpose of the patrol is to weaken the ISIL resolve by disrupting and destroying the enemy, without causing civillian casualties / collateral damage.
Execution
Tasks and Sequencing- Commander's Intent to locate and destroy enemy armor units, roadblocks, mortar or heavy machine-gun emplacements or forifications in preperation for a future planned assault on Mafaraz. This patrol will focus on identifiying key postions to be taken, and making as much progress as possible in the weakening of the enemy position.
