Situation
Background InformationTHREE STAR RATING: ★LITTLE TO NONE EXPECTED ★★DECENT AMOUNT EXPECTED ★★★HEAVY EMPHASIS / MAIN FOCUS OF OPERATION EXPECTED LEVEL OF COMBAT : ★★★ EXPECTED LEVEL OF RP: ★ EXPECTED DIFFICULTY: ★★ ASSETS: (NAME -> CALLSIGN) RW: RAH-66 Comanche -> SHIELD BRIEFING: After a bloody assault on Kalochori, NATO commanders now believe we have what is required to seize the initiative once and for all. By seizing Paros, NATO will cut off one of CSAT’s major supply lines to their elements in the northeast, and as such weaken their operational abilities in the region. Paros is for that reason considered a key strategic target and of utmost importance to both sides. Successful seizure of Paros is likely to starve CSAT forces to the northeast of supplies, which will in turn ease NATO's operations in the area. In order to complete this task, an infantry platoon, callsign SWORD, will move on and capture Paros with the support of a RAH-66 Comanche, callsign SHIELD.
Friendly Forces
SWORD - Infantry platoon detached from CHARLIE company, 2nd Battalion 136th Regiment, consisting of three squads SHIELD - Attack rotary wing BLACKSMITH - Logistical support STARLIGHT - Higher command
Supporting Assets
ALPHA Company, 2nd Battalion 136th Regiment, is in defensive posture at CAMP HERCULES, and has recently suffered moderate casualties due to heavy artillery barrages. BRAVO Company will remain in a defensive position facing Anthrakia. DELTA Company, will remain in a defensive position facing Rodopoli. ECHO Battery is located southeast of Chalkeia, prioritising fire missions from BRAVO AND DELTA for the duration of this operation. 2nd Battalion’s main logistical hub is situated in the quarry south of Pyrgos. This hub was recently raided by a CSAT SOF team.
Enemy Forces
CSAT in Paros is comprised of infantry and mechanised elements equipped with anti-vehicle and anti-air capabilities. Quick reaction forces and counterattacks are likely dispatched from the Northeast and Northwest. CSAT to the Northeast consists of armoured, mechanised and infantry elements, in addition to a rotary regiment reportedly present in Almyra. To the Northwest, CSAT consists primarily of mobile infantry and motorised units. The main airbase is the home of both fixed and rotary aviation. CSAT is at this time expecting a NATO continuation of the assault, and local units are expected to be fully prepared for a renewed NATO offensive. According to our intel, they have not yet received further support from peripheral units, though this is likely in process. We expect CSAT commanders to view the failure to retain Paros within their control as a big operational loss due to its strategic importance in supplying their northeast operations.
Mission
TaskingSeize and secure Paros.
End-state
Paros is, at 15:00 local time at 30 November 2039 under full and uncontested NATO control.
Execution
Commander's IntentThe purpose of the mission is to seize control of the town of Paros, following from a semi-successful assault on Kalochori early today.
Tasks and Sequencing
The plan contains one sole objective and segment; The securing of Paros.
To that end, there are 5 phase lines, not including Phase 0 (Maneuver phase), each a segment of Paros itself.
Stepping out from the Assembly area into Phase 0, SWORD will move North up to the AP behind HILL 45. Utilizing Squad bounding, and a preliminary bombardment of the southern defensive line by SHIELD the initial movement will see SWORD 3 attacking and gaining a foothold in the defensive line.
After SWORD 3 gains a foothold, SWORD 1 and SWORD 2 will be able to move to their sectors, with SWORD 1,2&3 positioning from North to South respectively, and begin clearing Phase 1 of all CSAT forces. From there the Platoon will push North East, clearing each phase of CSAT until Paros is under our control.
Throughout, SHIELD will be engaging any enemy attempt at reinforcement, and will be tasked to observe and eliminate any enemy through Routes A,B,C,D&E. Given the number of routes into the town, it is likely that OPFOR will be able to reinforce from one of these directions, so SWORD, especially SWORD 1 will have to be wary of enemy from the North as they move. SHIELD should also exercise care when operating near the restricted air space marked yellow. This should not be treated as a hard line, as enemy AA has proved more than effective in recent operations and caution must be taken when operating near the space.
The plan is structured to allow each squad to make progress and prevent any enemy from outside of Paros, but CSAT have been able, in the past, to overcome these issues and will likely attempt to counterattack in force. As such, each squad should expect to have to deviate from their own sector where necessary and where instructed with specific actions on listed below:
MASCAS: All squads to hold position, 2 combat effective squads to shift to positions secure the designated CCP until MASCAS has been relieved.
OPFOR break through lines from North or West: SWORD 1 to turn and engage. SWORD 2 & SWORD 3 to either hold or continue movement adjusting to clear SWORD 1 sector, as needed.
SHIELD is put out of action: ALL CALLSIGNS to continue movement, but establish clear fall back positions in case of enemy counterattack whilst air cover is down.
Additionally, throughout the town there a several POIs that will require our attention in different ways. The main ones are;
- Barracks x3
- Town Hall
- (Potential) CSAT commanders residence
- Prison
Each of these may require adjustment to the designated lanes in order for squad cover and should be dealt with as needed.
