--- OPERATIONS ORDER ---
Situation
Background InformationGrand Scheme As tensions climb between NATO and Russian forces in the Arctic and High North, Russia has begun constructing and reinforcing forward sites on remote islands in the Kara Sea. Intelligence indicates these efforts are intended to extend Russian ISR, maritime control, and logistical reach into contested waters. Napf Island has emerged as a key node within this effort. Due to its proximity to major shipping lanes, sheltered coastal approaches, and existing infrastructure, Russian forces have developed the island into a forward logistics hub supporting distributed operations across the region. The island is being used to store ammunition, stage personnel, and provide sustainment to smaller Russian and proxy elements operating throughout nearby maritime and littoral areas. From Napf Island, Russian forces can move supplies by sea and air with minimal warning, while leveraging the island’s terrain and limited accessibility to reduce exposure to large-scale NATO strikes. Control of the island enables Russia to maintain operational momentum in the Kara Sea while complicating NATO planning, response timelines, and freedom of maneuver. These forward positions threaten NATO’s ability to operate freely, particularly in naval and amphibious operations, by allowing Russian forces to monitor and potentially influence shipping and military movements throughout the region. In response, U.S. forces have initiated limited-objective operations, targeting isolated but high-value enemy strongholds to degrade Russian command, control, sustainment, and air-defense capabilities without engaging large conventional formations. The 29th Marine Expeditionary Unit, embarked aboard LPD-68 USS Takmyr, has been tasked with conducting such objective raids and seizures on Napf Island. The 29th MEU aims to dismantle Russian forward positions, deny the enemy the ability to sustain regional operations, and establish conditions for follow-on actions in the Kara Sea. Mission Specific Recent intelligence shows that Russian-backed insurgents now hold the entirety of Napf Island. They have seized many existing facilities and constructed their own to support this ever-growing logistics network. A historic castle has been converted into a fortified outpost housing a large ammunition stockpile. A nearby airfield provides radar coverage that enables the Russian forces' early warning and denies any friendly aviation assets to the island. As long as these two facilities remain operational, the insurgents and the main Russian force retain the ability to conduct their regional operations and contest the air domain. The 29th MEU has identified the position as isolated, lightly reinforced, and vulnerable to a night assault; thus making it an ideal target to create a NATO foothold on the island. A Marine rifle squad has been tasked to assault the castle, deny the ammunition cache, capture the airfield, and radar. If this mission is successful, it will begin the collapse of the enemy’s forward logistics and surveillance capability on Napf Island. This foothold will allow for further and larger operations on the island.Five-Star Rating System

Friendly Forces
The primary supporting force for this operation is the 29th Marine Expeditionary Unit, embarked aboard LPD-68 USS Takmyr. Currently, the 29th MEU is stationed South West of Napf Island by 3 klicks. The ground element consists of a rifle squad within 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines. LPD-68 serves as the command, control, sustainment, and recovery platform. LPD-68 additionally serves as a communications relay, mission oversight, and extraction capability; however, its employment is currently restricted due to the aforementioned ground-based radar coverage originating from the airfield southwest of the island. No naval-fired missiles or fixed-wing support are allowed in order to maintain the requested limited footprint. Vehicles - [3x]
Supporting Assets
At the beginning of the mission, there will be no other friendly, allied, or partner ground forces on Napf Island. The squad from 1/2 Marines is the only friendly ground maneuver element in this area of operations until the airfield is secured and the initial radar system is neutralized. Upon the capture, two UH-1 helicopters will insert additional friendly infantry elements from LPD-68 to reinforce and consolidate the squad’s final position. Until that point, the ISR support remains limited to maritime and over-the-horizon assets. This will force the squad to operate with a high degree of independence.
Enemy Forces
The enemy in this area of operation consists of the Russian-backed insurgents. They occupy well-prepared defensive positions around the fortified castle ammunition depot and an adjacent airfield housing a ground-based radar system. Their weaponry includes small arms, machine gun emplacements, ZU-23-2s, limited motorized patrols, and possible MANPADAS near the airfield to contest aviation. The current radar system provides early warning and air denial. Enemy forces have limited night-fighting ability and rely on static defenses and terrain familiarity. Opposing Forces Plan of Action As ISR tells, the enemy will defend their key terrain to maintain their logistics and surveillance. They will fight tooth and nail to delay this assault. If overwhelmed, there is a possibility they will attempt to retreat and sabotage any possible intelligence. The most dangerous outcome would be a coordinated counterattack supported by indirect fires and MANPADs immediately following radar engagement.
Mission
TaskingThe employed rifle squad is tasked with conducting a night assault on the southwestern corner of Napf Island to seize and clear the enemy-occupied strongholds. The squad must secure or destroy the ammunition stockpiles to deny enemy sustainment and to destroy the ground-based radar system enabling friendly aviation support. This operation will emphasize speed, stealth, and coordination to overwhelm enemy defenses while minimizing friendly casualties. Upon the completion of these objectives, the squad is responsible for holding the airfield until the insertion of additional friendly forces via rotary-wing assets. The mission requires independent maneuvering and adaptability as the squad must operate without immediate reinforcement until the airfield is secured.
End-state
The desired end-state for mission success is that the castle complex is secured and the ammunition stockpile inside is either captured or destroyed. The airfield must be fully controlled and the radar system neutralized. Friendly forces must establish a foothold at the airfield and hold onto it until follow-on reinforcements arrive at the airfield. To cause a mission failure, friendly forces will have been unable to seize one or both key objectives, thus leaving the enemy in control of their logistics hub and radar coverage. This will heavily degrade MEU operational freedom, delay further operations, and force an emergency extraction under contested conditions. The squad must prioritize withdrawal and preservation of combat power if holding their position becomes impossible.
Execution
Commander's IntentMy intent is to use our speed to do a surprise attack and overwhelm the enemy defenses
Tasks and Sequencing
PHASE 0 ALL CALLSIGNS Will assemble at rp-0 . 5 min after start ex PHASE 1 We will insert either to LZ Panda or LZ Fox From there we will flank the castle Clearing the castle clockwise Once the castle is in our control we will plant charges on the ammunition cache and prepare to Move out PHASE 2 We will setup at op 1 to scan the airfield and plan our attack where. BEAR 1-1 will provide overwatch until BEAR 1-2 is capable to assault the airfield and establish a foothold Slowly clearing the airfield and radar installation
Administration/Logistics
ResupplyALL CALLSIGNS will be assigned backpacks for extended carry capacity Should bring enough to fight until the logistics element can reach us at the airfield
