• Define the commander’s intent and desired end state.
• Select a workable course of action.
• Designate the main effort and supporting efforts.
• Assign each element a task and purpose.
• Establish movement, timing and control measures.
• Integrate supporting assets.
• Plan sustainment, casualty handling and recovery.
• Establish likely contingencies and transition criteria.
• Confirm the plan remains achievable with available forces.
