FM/BG-1896.V1.00 - PACE Plans

Establish alternative methods for maintaining critical communication and coordination functions.

  • Identify functions critical to the operation.
  • Establish a Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency method for each critical function.
  • Ensure alternative methods do not all depend on the same equipment or system.
  • Define the conditions for moving between methods.
  • Brief the plan to all affected elements.
  • Confirm subordinate leaders understand the plan.
  • Update the plan when capabilities or conditions change.

PACE plans may apply to:

  • Command communications
  • Communication with supporting assets
  • Fire-support coordination
  • Casualty evacuation
  • Resupply
  • Extraction and link-up
  • Location or landing-site marking

Four methods dependent on the same radio network do not form an effective PACE plan.
