FM/BG-1812 - When to stay mounted vs. dismount
Unlike many traditional cavalry roles, scout cavalry elements are expected to dismount when the situation requires. Mounted and dismounted posture should be selected based on terrain, speed requirements, and observation needs.
Stay Mounted When:
- Moving through large, open areas.
- Speed and rapid repositioning are required.
- Long-range observation is sufficient.
Dismount When:
- Operating in close, restrictive, or urban terrain.
- Stealth and reduced vehicle signature are needed.
- Detailed, close-range observation or precision action is required.
