Establish Reporting Requirements

Establish and request appropriate reports to maintain situational awareness and support command decisions.

• Identify the information required to maintain an accurate understanding of the situation.
• Establish routine and event-driven reporting requirements for subordinate and supporting elements.
• Request updates when information is incomplete, outdated or required for a decision.
• Establish Commander’s Critical Information Requirements.
• Specify when, how and in what format reports are required.
• Assign responsibility for providing required reports.
• Avoid unnecessary reporting that creates workload without improving situational awareness.
• Adjust reporting requirements as the situation and information requirements change.
• Use received reports to update situational understanding and inform decisions.
